VOL. XXXII . BREVARD, NORTH CARO UNA, JANUARY 13, 1927 ? No. 2 GREAT ENTHUSIASM SHOWN IN BIG GATHERING OF CHAMBER OF COMMERCE Pl?n. for Biggc.l Year in Tran.yN vnnia'i History ? Much Optimism PRESIDENT PLUMMER PRESIDED AT MEETING Speaker* Declare brevard'i Future A'?ureJ ? 78 Men at Banquet Table Seventy-five citizens of Brevard and three visitors sat down together at a banquet in the Central Cafe Tuesday night, and held what many of the older citizens pronounced to be one of the finest boosting meet ings ever held in the county. The event was the annual get-to-gether meeting of the Chamber of Com merce, or the "booster'* meeting," as it is called by many. It was held preparatory to the launching of tho campaign for new members for the Commerce body, which will be in full swing early Friday morning. H. A. Plummer, the new president, delivered his "maiden speech" to the body of men who had elevated him to leadership. To say that he con ducted the meeting in line style is stating the case mildly. Like an old veteran, President Plummer told of the object of the meeting and intro duced the speakers. On account of illness PaBt Presi dent Everett could not be present, and Secretary Aexander was called upon to speak for Mr. Everett. This Mr. Alexander did, by giving por tions of Mr. Everett's report of the past year's activities and acomplish ments of the Chamber of Commerce. Vice President James S. Brom field was next called upon, and in a moment's time had the big crowd in an uproar with his plain spoken man. ner of stating facts, his l$een wit and fine humor. Mr. Bromfield, who has been in business here for the past 22 years, told how the men of the town first tried to organize and co- 1 ordinate their efforts through the old Brevard Club. That organization, fan in slipshod mcthodB of olden times, worked wonders for this com munity. Then the club was merged into a Chamber of Commerce, and each year, since the organization of the Chamber of Commerce, Brevard has enjoyed greater and better busi ness than the year before. Mr. Bromfield asserted that Brevard has many accomplishments already to her credit that wh?n first launched (continued on page seven) DEPOSITS PASST M'LLION MARK At the annual meeting of Ihe stockholders ?f the Brevard Banking company, held last Monday, an nouncement was made that tho de posits had topped the million dollar mark.
